I have a Canon 50D and have problems with the shutter release. I always shooot in manual mode and ater pressing the shutter release button hafway down to obtain focus, the shutter does not want to release, Only after holding it down for about two - three seconds does the shutter release. It is impossible to take action photos with this camera. I have cheched the following:
1. Mirror Lockup is disabled
2. Switched between AV, TV, Manual and Auto. In all modes the same thing happens.
3. Used different lenses and the same thing happens.

I think this camera need to go in fo a major checkup. What do you think can be wrong?

Is the camera shutter set to the self-timer 2 second delay?

(Page 90 of the manual)

If you've ruled out any errant settings then it sounds like a dirty shutter button. I had the same issue on my 30D and did the alcohol trick, where you remove the batteries and pour a small amount of isopropyl alcohol into the battery compartment and let it trickle down into the shutter button. Do a search for it here in the forum, and on YouTube for specific instructions.

I have now rest the whole camera to factory default settings, just to make sure that there is not something somewhere that I switched on or off by accitend(playing around!) No Luck in sorting out my roblem.
Someone did tell me about a sutter delay option, but the 50D does not seem to have this.
I also susspect a dirty shutter release. Will try cleaning that.

Press the AF-DRIVE button above the top LCD and cycle through (with the quick control dial) single shot, high speed continuous, low speed continuous, and two remote/self timer options.

As I said in post #2, see page 90 of the manual.
