I really want the 17-40L I love the Focal lenght and I love the images it takes, sadly I have about $200 and that is nowhere near close enough to cover the cost of my second L lens. Unless someone wants to send me theirs I guess im screwed, So if you want to help a High school student who aspires to start a photography shop and become a professional photographer let me know. Anyways convince me this lens isnt worth me selling my kidney for.

What body? If APS-C, the Tarmon 17-50 2.8 costs less and is better on top.

i'd just go for the tamron then, less money, lighter, smaller, more range, faster

i actually had the 17-40L and then sold it after I got the tamron and used both for a few weeks

It's good to have something to aspire to, but you don't have to start out there. I know several people who started their own photography businesses right out of school and got things off the ground without any lenses with a red ring. I know what you said was in jest but start out with what you have and reward yourself with a lens after you have earned the money from photography. It's much more about who is operating the gear than the gear itself. I have some decent lenses but I'm mediocre at best, therefore my lenses are only mediocre as well.

Since you know a great number of HS students; why not get them to pay you to take HS senior photo's to finance your new lens

But none I want, I don't want to get a job for 25 days then quit it to work at the job I want.

Can't get a very good reference if you have only been working there for 3 weeks. :P

You sound bit spoiled. Buy a cheap third party aps-c lens to cover ur wideangle needs and be done with it.

wasn't a reference that was the point! if you aren't happy keep working your job but always be looking for something better and never take a lateral move!

There are a million ways to make money at that age. I just turned 21 and bought my first camera just over 2 years ago without my parents dropping a dime on any of it. I just finished up my bachelors in finance while working full time too.

You got very lucky to have a full tome job.

When I was still in community college I worked two jobs and had a third seasonal, but that was in 2007. Things are incredibly difficult now.

Do I? Im sorry I buy everything for myself and my parents havent spent a dime on me in 8 years. (minus food, school, transportation to and from school and the obvious living expenses.) I find your comment rude and without knowing me you would have no clue.

Also, I love the 17-40 for the quality of the images and the focal length it provides as well as the build quality, otherwise I would get a cheap lens. I like to spend my hard earned money on things that will last. L lenses have been known to last MANY years.
