So I was out in the 100+ heat of Texas on Sunday, and climbing around an area of falls that due to the drought are a thinly connected series of pools (great pics if I ever get around to editing them).

Anyway, at one point I slipped on a rock, and got a little water on the camera. I wiped it off ASAP, and initially nothing seemed wrong. However, later in the day I noticed that the backlight for the LCD was turning on, but I was no longer seeing anything on the screen.

Got home, and all the pictures were fine. However, even after letting it sit for a day, the LCD turns on (to the point the backlight appears to be on), but no display.

Obviously I can still use the camera without the LCD. But am wondering what it would cost to get it replaced, and who there might be online that y'all could recommend to send it to? If I have it in anyway, anything else I should have them do while I'm at it? Or is the cost so much I'd be just as well getting a Used T2i or something?

TIA!

Funny... here is what the Canon site says if you request service for a T2i:
Please be advised that repair service is no longer available for this product. However, in appreciation of your continued loyalty, we would like to fully understand your immediate needs and offer an alternative solution, if possible.

SO... any suggestions of places that would actually do the work? Or is this their not so gentle way of saying I'd be better off buying another camera?

I can't believe that Canon won't service a current camera body. Are you sure? Can you link to the message?

Canon will fix it,
EDIT: Saw the above posts that went up while writing mine - not good!!! Call them up and see if you can defeat them with kindness - bees, honey, vinegar, etc....get a crying female to make the call for you! :)

What can't hurt is to take out the batteries (the little clock battery too) and leave it in a dry place for a few days -(surprised that the way you wrote your saga, that it sounds as if you left the battery/batteries in).... I've had cell phones and other small electronics (calculators, hand-held electronic games, etc.) get wet and once they dried out they were fine. The programmable flashlights are something that this happens with fairly often - and the thing to do with them it also to just let them dry out (removing all batteries) -

If it doesn't work, then you are back where you started and may have wasted 3 or 4 days but the upside can be pretty good - and there really is no downside other than a delay in sending it in to be repaired. DO NOT leave the camera in direct sunlight to try to speed up the process - just leave it and let it dry at it's natural rate - If it were a lens that was affected I would perhaps put it in a bag with a desiccant to absorb the moisture, but while I don't think that could hurt, it might be better to let more air get at it..

Also, you can call Canon's tech support and explain what happened and ask if there's anything you can do before giving up on it and sending it for a repair - chances are that they'll say the same thing I did, but you never know - the phone call is free, and again, no downside.

There are independent repair facilities that might fix it even if Canon won't (which seems very strange since it is a current model)

Good luck,
D.

Wow, what a nice picture! You must have a really great camera!

I'd give them a call. That has to be an error in their site. The T2i is a current model. So, buy it and no warranty support? I doubt it. You won't be covered under warranty because of water damage, but they WILL service it.

could be the sensor that detects your face is stuck on,

Plug camera into your computer using a USB cable and see if the screen reactivates,

My impression is something is going on with regard to repair of t2i cameras. Mine was in the Canon Virginia repair shop last month to have the autofocus fixed. They 'repaired' it and sent it back, but it was worse than before. I sent it back to them a couple of weeks ago, they signed for the UPS shipment, and then... LOST my camera and lens. They told me this morning that they would order me a new camera and lens, but that it would likely be the t3i.

I didn't think about it at the time since I don't care whether it's a t2i or t3i, but now it seems strange since the t2i is supposed to be a current model still. I hadn't seen the notice on their website about service no longer being offered.

Didn't seem to make a difference, but thanks for the suggestion.

First level support is pretty insistent that they won't accept a T2i for service for any reason (I was being coy just to see if there was anything in particular they were looking for), nor would they recommend any 3rd party. I didn't pursue trying to escalate nor try to find out what their "special" arrangements might be. Given that it doesn't seem to affect taking pictures, I'm not yet desperate enough to kill a couple hours...

I took out the main battery over night, but perhaps that wasn't long enough? As for the clock battery... where is that on the T2i? I must have installed when I got it, but danged if I remember now.

Thanks,
Ewan

Wonder what they're doing for warranty claims? Sending everyone a T3i?

So their level one folks would not help you? I have to think it is a mistake, the same page appears for the T3i, so that can't be right.
