M20 Trifid Nebula - my best so far

Man, this mono camera imaging with filters is a wild ride. The images come out much cleaner, but the processing is so time consuming. Hopefully the results are worth it. Taken with a QSI583ws camera on my 10" Newtonian.

Thanks guys. Getting that dust to show up like that was one of the things I was really trying for, so glad you are noticing the results

Firstly, I was at a dark site, so light pollution wasn't drowning out the really faint stuff. Also, I think having 254mm of aperture helped as opposed to 80mm that I've used in the past, it just sucks the light in.

The subs were only 12x4mins for luminance, and I did 10x60secs for each RGB binned 2x2, and darks and flats applied for calibration. I'm pretty new to this type of imaging, but think those subs were just long enough. It's a balancing act of getting the dust to show up, but not blowing out too many of the stars.

If you're using a DSLR instead, I think you'd need much longer subs, and/or more of them, and you'd probably have more saturated stars.
