Those of us that drool over these killer rides at car shows know the difficulty of getting nice full shots of the cars when they are lined up together. My little trick is to show up at the end of the show ... it allows photo ops of the cars actually rolling down the street. A little bonus is you get to hear these cars run ... they are often as flawless mechanically as they are visually. Shooting that nice ride is one thing ... hearing that big block rumble as it rolls down the street is quite another.

have fun.

Great to see some pics in Colorado! Love the picture. Only nit pick is the reflection on the side. Totally subjective tho. Great shot

Nice angle, but you've got halos around it from where you darkened the background. Try selecting it before you make the changes to the background, inverting that selection, & then making the change with a Layer< New Adjustment layer so you can adjust it's exposure independent of the background: Selecting areas in PS.

There are a few links there under (EDIT-2) that gives more information on Adjustment Layers if you haven't used them before.

What shutter speed do you use on the panning shots? I tried using 1/80th, but wasn't too happy as most shots were not sharp.

my biggest tip is, BE PATIENT and especially if its a smaller car show, wait for your shot, don't give up giving the excuse of "oh too many people around that car" "too many people at the show" bull. Pick your angles and details and take them, and have fun. If a hood is up, maybe ask the owner to put the hood down if possible (or vice versa)

Thanks Frank. I ran this single image through the NIK HDR tone mapping software. I don't usually care for HDR because of the haloing but thought this one came out OK in spite of the flaws. It certainly is not an example of HDR at it's best.

cheers

i used a shutter speed in the neighborhood of 1/25 for those shots. panning just takes a little practice, and i'm definitely still working on it! a tripod helps immensely as well, although i wasn't using one for those shots.
