DISCLAIMER:

A moderator moved this thread to this forum, maybe by default, but it does not belong here (Kinda says it right in there...). Unless someone specifically requests criticism, please don't offer it. It's anathema to the point of the topic.

THE ORIGINAL POST:

Hey. New here so maybe this has been done but...

I recently posted two pairs of photos that have technical/aesthetic issues, but that I still really like.

The second thread in particular was bastardized as despite my clarification that I was only looking to know how people responded to the images despite what I already knew were their flaws, members focused on telling me what was definitively and/or arguably wrong with them and how to make corrections or shoot differently. Sigh.

Frustrating enough to make me want to not post further. However, found this room and decided to go with making lemonade. Thought it would be fun to see shots of this nature (ones you like not just in spite of but even more so due to their technical issues) taken by other members--again, solely for the fun of it.

I'll start with a technically horrible in every way image of a black skimmer taken maybe 8 years ago with my then just purchased first camera, a Kodak 6490, when I knew virtually nothing about photography.

Still, have always somehow liked it...

This is the only one I have, not that I haven't taken more than my share of bad images :) I had forgotten to change my setting from my last shot. I like the ghostly feel to it.

see i really like this image if this is the look you are going for but isn't that funny how art works obscure and technically wrong can look so good when it is intended but it depends on the purpose of the shot i like the stair case though does have the eerey presence.

to the OP i like the shot and it does happen where some of the best moments do not focus properly or quick enough or the lighting is off but you only have one second so you take the shot and hope for the best.

NYC. Missed the focus but I loved the shot anyway...

Go on then, I'll play as well:

IMAGE: http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff140/Trugga_bucket/Holiday%202011/Holiday201100039.jpg

Bat - Spotted them one evening and wondered if I could capture one. High ISO, flash and high shutter speed got me that. Pleased to have gotten the image and enthused to improve upon it.

IMAGE: http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff140/Trugga_bucket/Holiday%202011/Holiday201100029.jpg

Buzzard - I watched this bird for almost 10 minutes, but whatever I did with the camera I just could not get a good shot. This is the best of the bunch - again, enthused to do better next time.

IMAGE: http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff140/Trugga_bucket/Holiday%202011/Holiday201100036.jpg

Ditto fly - using a cheep add-on macro front element.

I normally shoot motorsport - wildlife is a whole new experience.

Glad to hear it, WW--particularly after the unpleasantness in the referenced thread.

And I was half hoping that someone would post as you did, DJ. Thanks for that. ; )

First shot is extremely cool, and very ghostly/spooky somehow as twice noted.

Second is, as these shots often turn out to be (and in a way that proficiently attained shots often are not), very evocative. Reminds me of something that might be on the back of a book's dust jacket to at once suggest a sense of place and the mood it inspires.

The wildlife macro... I feel your pain. I have a close-up lens that I use with my zoom and it's a complete nightmare, with virtually no focal length. Next year, maybe, Canon's 180mm macro--although I do like the challenge.

And thanks for playing our game...

I like the idea behind this thread : )

I'll play. A random snapshot of my dog after I got my 430EX. Had no idea what I was doing but I liked her expression.

here's one missed up I waited a millisecond to long and took the shot it's a little to close and because of that I cut the rear of the car off a wider focal length would have helped also.

Funny thing is I saw someone else make this same exact thread over in the General Photography section a while back. The only difference was that everyone thought it was a stupid idea and the OP got bashed. I think its a cool idea!

Focus is off, only focusing on the one droplet area. But I loved this because my husband and I had to go away for a funeral, and we were in a somber mood, but I wrote this on the vanity for him to come back to. Unfortunately he didn't come back in time, the steam was gone, so I edited it and showed him, and it made him smile :) Things like that make me love the not-so-good images :)

David

You are most kind.

I, like many "newbies" here I guess, see some absolutely amazing photographs posted and one day I hope to be as constistantly good - that is the key worrd there I believe; "constistant".

Sometimes you can be lucky and get the image you envisage, other times (most times) the best result has to be worked for - I consider I'm still working (but I'm getting there, slowly).

Cheers
Lawrence
