Infrared bridal

I've long dabbled with infrared photography after being inspired by Patrick Rice's wedding photography. When The Wife had my camera converted to full-time infrared as an anniversary gift, I knew I wanted to use it for bridal and wedding shoots--but I didn't have an opportunity until last week with the lovely Alicia. I'm exceedingly happy with the results, and Alicia was blown away by them. Even The Wife, who's something of a skeptic when it comes to IR, likes the results.

#1 is amazing

Thank you. I believe it is the single best portrait I've ever taken (which isn't necessarily saying much, but still...)

The whites of her eyes look a little strange to me, yellowish, in the first shot.

sorry #1 doesn't work for me unless you maybe clean up the whites of her eyes. Even then I'm not sure I like the infra red on that one, just my 2 cents.

#2 looks soft, like the focus is on the flowers in front of her and not her eyes.

Love the 2nd, it is like a fashion wear doll.

For #1, it is great and all, but looks a bit too spooky for my taste.

Eyes: check.
Focus: check.
Spooky: check.

I agree..both are incredible. I dont think #1 could be any better, except for the 'whites' of her eyes..
maybe that is because I too love IR..

What frequency/wavelength are you using with the 400D-IR?? I have a 720nm 20D, and am thinking of just doing a "Full Spectrum" to my 40D so I can use it for ANY spectrum, ANY time.the only downside is having to use lens mounted filters...but, if you shoot manual, who cares?

I have always used Full Spectrum on my "main" bodies(5D2/7D/60D/etc)​, but left my 1D3 stock.
It is just so much more versatile.
For "normal" daytime images/WB, you can use this:

It is designed for cameras that are converted for Astro imaging, but it is literally PERFECT for cameras that have no stock filters in front of the sensor.
The filter will only work on CROP(1.6x) bodies, AND EF lenses...
doesnt limit me much with my gear, but for some people it would..

btw, I do these conversions for a living...(not soliciting, just in case anyone was wondering why someone would 'experiment' with every model Canon makes, even $2-6k(7D/1D3/5D2 to 1DsMarkIII..etc) camera bodies.lol)..

the first one is off the charts. the color palette and tone is simply stunning and enhances the striking qualities of the model.

I think it's interesting, but I would never do this for someone's wedding/bridal/engagem​ent photos.

I agree. I'd definitely do it for a Goth style portrait though. It's very spooky looking and unless the wedding is on October 31st, I don't see it working well with wedding photography.
