Hi guys,

I just recently purchased a slightly used Canon 5D2 and I was testing it today and for some reason I am having a very hard time understanding the auto foucs button. Now on my xsi, there is a similar button to set focus points which I also see on the 5D2 as well but whenever I press the button to change foucs points it will not allow me to do anything. I have been reading the manual and it is saying to press auto focus button and select which should be very simple but either I am doing something wrong or could be somethig else. I am praying it has something to do with setting. I am a little worried and anxious to find the right answer. I cleared all previous settings from main menu and still no luck. Also, whenever I press the shutter button half way to set the foucs points nothing happens.

Karim.

Check page 81 on in your manual, you can use the dials or the joystick. Also make sure you have the on switch all the way up, there are 2 on positions, one will lock out the dials.

I have been reading the manual and it is saying as soon as I should press the auto foucs button, in the viewfinder I should be able to select which point by turning the dial. Problem is I am not seeing anything light up in the focus diamond to select. I am sure it is to do with a certain setting and I have been playing around with it in the menu but I am probably not choosing the right setting under menu. I was hoping someone who also ran into similar situation would be able to help out.

Do you have a grip on it? Also, you don't hit the AF-ON button to select AF points, you use the button that has the picture of the AF points on it, it is the far right button (one next to the * button to the right).

I don't have a grip on it. That is what I am trying to find out then when i hit that button on the very far right nothing happens. However there is another button which is a small scroll button right below the viewfinder that if I press the button I can select the focus points. I am just trying to find out why is it that when I press the actual focus button one with the (+) sign on top right howcome nothing happens.

Thanks for your help so far Teamspeed :).

Look at page 179, perhaps that CF setting is set?

Ok so it was in settings under AF point selection method and I had to select normal and viola! Now, the only other thing I am trying to find out is when I press shutter button half way why is the lens not focusing and I am forced to use the button AF on to make lens focus. I am sure its in the settings again somewhere but if someone knows a quick fix please advise. Once again Thanks Teamspeed for your quick replies.

Karim.

I would start by going to the menu #7 and resetting all camera settings. It sounds like the previous owner had this set up for their liking, and as a new user, you might want to start with all default settings.

My guess is that they have set up the AF/Shutter button CF to be this way, check out page 182, if you decide to not reset all settings.
