hi,

first of let me say thanks in advance,
basically i picked up the canon sx 220 hs,

im happy with taking pictures outdoors, so far getting great results

but having a hard time getting good photos indoors with poor lighting,
we have a 3 month new born and im wanting to take some good photos,

from what a researched i really like gary knights photo's,

any advice would be great,

need help with settings,
im currently using i contrast on av mode at 200 iso and manually focusing . with auto white balance, custom colours contrast + 2 saturation+2 sharpnes +1 and light metering to evaluate overall scene

im wondering to capture our little baby indoors if should use auto settings, like pets and kids, or scene mode low lighting,

keep in mind she moves alot which im sure your aware of

and really dont want to use a flash

please help,

thanks,

adam

adam, I don't want to be negative on this, but you should realize for starters that any P&S will be challenged to capture motion in low light. So you need to temper your expectations a bit.

I'd be shooting in Manual mode, at the slowest shutter speed that still allows you to capture sharp images with no motion blur. Keep aperture wide open. Boost ISO up as high as you can deal with in terms of noise. I'd also go with spot metering.

I don't think the scene modes are very useful for capturing motion in low light, but you can always try them and see what happens.

Others may have some better suggestions, but ultimately just keep shooting until you find what works for you. That is the beauty of digital.

Most importantly, congrats on the birth of your daughter!
