I did a search for this and couldn't see this posted anywhere yet.

I heard a similar interview with the victim on the radio while driving today. I will caution those about to click on the link, it can be viewed as racist but this has the opportunity to go a long way in the public. The victim in this case is a freelance journalist and is on the radio and tv quite often in Canada taking the police to task. Just beware as you click on it.

That'll probably be tough with no police report and no names.

As crazy as this situation is, its really nothing new. Many other/new cultures are constantly changing our laws and getting away with things that other folks cant. As stated in the news report, had the man done that to her, he would have been charged with assault no doubt.

Anyone remember the incident where the man who wanted to ride a motorcycle without a helmet because it wouldnt fit over his turban managed to bend the law to allow to ride without one? Maybe I can change the law to now wear a seatbelt because I dont want to crinkle my Lacoste tee

I would have gotten the name of the police officer and pursued it. Not sure what good that would have done but at least you can try.

Is it just me or does anyone find things are just getting more depressing. Maybe I just read the news more than I did 30 years ago. We have one of the greatest multiculteral events in our city that is second to none. Different ehtnic host pavilions and you can go there, eat, drink, see displays and watch traditional dancing. It is two week event and has been running for over 40 years and I can't recall there being any incidents of any kind of that nature. This is what I'm used to. It is actually on right now. Makes me proud of my city.

...ummm, he had the name of the policeman, he named the policeman twice. It shouldn't be hard to track him down the policeman involved.

As for David Menzies story: sorry, not buying it. What we had here was a ten minute rant from a political commentator who already has admitted issues with the Chief of Police.

Show me another news organisation reporting this: show me the interview with the police or the news agencies attempting to interview the people in the photos.

Obviously an incident happened, but based on what I just watched I'm much more inclined to believe that the police officer had to deliberate on a "he said she said" incident, than anything to do with laziness, or as Menzies said, "political correctness."

Here's a quick update that I heard on the news this morning. David Menzies has had to complete for a "Freedom of Information" (FOI) application in order to get the names of all the parties involved. This FOI apparently also gets him copies of the police officers note book for the pages involving this, copies of the security video that had been taken and placed in the control of the police and any other information that police may hold in relation to this.

I will admit that I am no fan of David Menzies. I think he is full of himself most of the time. However, if one is going to go to all of the trouble of filing all this paper work you have to figure something happened. No matter what the truth will bear in the end once this information does become public.

From what I gathered from the original radio interview that I heard he wasn't even shooting people but something else but these people were apparently in the original view. I am going to watch this closely as we have a government that is more worried about their popularity than they are actually dealing with issues involving normal citizens. Now if this had been a friend of anyone in the government it would be taking a total different twist. Anyone remember the G8/20 in Toronto. Then there was that little hockey loss in Vancouver that turned into a riot. The police sit idly by and do little or next to nothing. If there are more incidents like this and the victims actually push it, perhaps we can get the police more clearly educated on what the law is surrounding photography in a public location.

I don't see the big deal here in some respects. The pictures were apparently taken of a woman in traditional garb and you couldn't see her face anyway. Maybe it wasn't her husband she was with and he would recognize the outfit. ;);)

Same thing happens in the "urban" areas of large US cities (e.g., Los Angeles, Philly, etc.) whenever the home team wins or loses a championship...riots, destroying businesses, burning cars, and looting get to be common occurrences. Almost never happens in smaller venues such as Green Bay. Blame it on many things...the coarsening of the culture, lack of values and/or morals, disrespect for the property of others, the list goes on. Armageddon's coming...thankfully, I too live in a state where the right to own and carry a firearm is allowed and respected.

The last two times I was in TO airport and ordered a beer they checked my ID. One time there were four German tourists who got pretty mad, refused and wound up ordering cokes. That must have been tough. I can't imagine a German without a beer and a schnitzel. Kinda like a Dutch person without a shmoke and a pancake :D

Anyway I asked the server why the ID thing and she responded about a security thing which made no sense to me. I later found out that the TO airport authority or whatever authority wound up in court because of a harassment charge. A person/s claimed they were being harassed because of their ethnic background while others where not. So I guess now if they have to ask for ID to check if a person is of legal drinking age (which they need to do) they just check everyone to not get into any trouble. That would be the only real reason to ask because we were eating after we got past the security gate.
