I've read a few reviews of the Opteka hood (sold on Amazon) that the threading is pretty tight - some have had to trim it in fact to get it to work properly.

The Adorama hood has reviews that it's often loose. Other 3rd party hoods I've read don't reverse properly and thread on.

I'm leaning toward the Opteka (rather too tight than too loose), but discovered POTN has the correct model as well. Any feedback from someone who has purchased the POTN version of this hood? Any fit issues?

In case anyone else is doing the same research I did, and was frustrated by the scarcity of reviews on the POTN version, thought I'd post my experience. I decided on the POTN hood as there had been some mixed reviews of the Opteka version.

As is usual with orders through POTN, once ordered the hood arrived very quickly. The hood fits extremely well, no issues at all getting it on or off, either in extended position or reversed. Of course it's missing the velvet-like coating of the OEM version, but considering many feel the hood on this lens to be nice but not always absolutely necessary, for the cost savings I'm willing to risk a bit of glare. I'd not make the same decision on some other lenses, but seemed on this one to be a good compromise.

If I found myself in need of a hood for another Canon lens, I'd not hesitate to purchase the POTN version again. Nice combination of quality and value without the risk (or wait) of an eBay purchase.

I can confirm that the Adorama hood is too loose. I've had it for years and curse it every time I put it on. It has lots of play and is easily knocked off with minimal contact.

Can you give me the SKU number of that? I want to inform the purchasing department so they can go back to the factory with the info: Helen@adorama.com (external link)

Thank you

Emailed the SKU number. Interesting to note that this lens hood was $24.95 when I purchased it in February 2008, but is $9.95 in August 2011. It's worth $10, but probably not $25.
