Dave, I don't think the Rice Milk jugs work quit the same as cow milk jugs do. You probably have to dial in some exposure compensation when you use it. ;)

Hey Bruce, is that a Bouvier in your picture?

Mike

Yes indeed. I have admired some of your previous Bouv postings along with your web site. There are some beautiful examples of the standard on your site.

They are a marvelous breed, a great family and companion animal.

Unfortunately, the fellow in my avatar, Jive, passed away this summer. He was my 3rd, a rescue dog from California.

This fall, I was adopted by a retired stud (lucky guy!) from a kennel north of Toronto, Wim, originally from the Netherlands.

Quite a character, he seems to have the best traits from all my previous boys, all rolled into one.

My son has a six month old puppy, Montgomery, he came to live with them right after they bought their first house.

I love all dogs, but this is the breed I will always own.

Cheers,
Bruce Watson

That's neat Bruce. And thanks. I've been shooting Bouviers since we got our first on back in 1994. We lost her in June. We lost our male (one of my wife's service dogs) in Sept. That still left 4 (4 daughters of the two we lost) but the house sure seemed empty with out them. My wife just picked up a grandson of the male a couple of weeks ago as a replacement (and younger) service dog. She also has a 8 year old daughter that does service duties. The Bouviers are natural service dogs, but not used much because of the grooming requirements and because they are too smart for some people. :D

We have one of our boys (from the first litter 8 years ago) that lives a bit North of the Toronto area. One of the girls from the same litter is the first (and only Bouvier I think) to have some of the agility titles she has. She was ranked #2 in the country a year or so ago and has won every title available under AKC and started on a few different ones last year and this year. She blows the Border Collies out of the ring on a regular basis. She only needs a couple more qualifacation legs and she will be the only Bouvier to hold those titles as well. She has so many that that I can't remember what all she has but I know it takes several lines after her name to print them all. :D These dogs are amazing. And I agree, how can anyone own another breed after owning one of these. :D

I've slowed down taking pictures of the old crew and shows have really gone down here around our area, but now that we got the new youngster I'll probably start taking pictures of him as soon as he gets a little more use to the household and all the other dogs.

It's good to see another Bouvier in an avatar and another Bouvier person.

Hi Mike

My son is hoping to do some agility training with his pup. You are right about them being bright, and like some other breeds, that intelligence is sometimes confused by observers as obstinance. They give pause and consider things and then act with reserve

I think you wrote in one of your posts that Bouviers have minds consisting of committees, every request has to be considered and approved before action and that is right on the money. Every one that I have met has a philosphy of "think twice, act once", which can be puzzling to watch until you realize the process.

To add some OBPOTN (obligatory POTN) content, I will try to use Wim as one of the test models when I cobble my experimental 1 L milk jug flash diffuser on the weekend.

Cheers,
Bruce Watson

Bruce, yes, I did say that about their thinking being like a commettie. That's one of those trueisums that is passed down amoung the Bouvier people. :D

I'd love to see some shots of your Bouvier. With or without the milk jug. :D

Just saw this thread and laughed. "If you put a milk jug on your camera flash....You might be a redneck!"

How does it affect the pictures if you cut the top off the jug? I liked the idea of a alcohol bottle since it is pretty small.

Going small defeats one of the purposes. If you go small enough you have a unit called a Stofen!
