Check out this new app for android devices with usb hosting capabilities. I have been testing. It is still beta, but the functionality is awesome!! no PC or eye-fi car required. I am using with a Motorola Xoom.

Video of the app is here (external link).

I don't think the EVO supports USB hosting.

This is awesome. I'm due for an upgrade too. . . . I imagine the new dual core phones should be able to handle this.

Well, shucks. My Samsung Tab (7 inch version) doesn't have Honeycomb (Gingerbread). And it doesn't have a USB connection. The charger/USB connection appears to be a proprietary connection that is about an inch wide.

My phone is a Galaxy S. Build number is ECLAIRE. Bummer for me. It does have the micro usb connection.

Control it from my phone.....why? What would the point be? I can't see how I could actually use this.

Many benefits. A few are:

  • Bigger screen if using a tablet
  • Intravalometer
  • Expanded bracketing
  • Cable shutter release

For me the larger liveview is the big deal.

This would simply be outstanding. Maybe you are a macro shooter, or in my case, shooting a remote camera. I had to stand on a bucket to adjust my 7D/70-200 lens aimed at second base. This was so the remote would clear the fence and give me a clear shot. Having the abillity to see my image would not only help with my aim, but focus also. I use manual focus and live view would be great. Once focused, I tape the lens so the focus won't drift.

Same goes for remote mounted at ground level behind the soccer goal. Great news for us old guys with bad knees! Who needs a dang tilting screen! :-)

Examples of remote set up either high or low.

This would definitely help the 5d screen...

This would also be useful for video...

A simple bracket mounted to the camera and you have a seperate video viewer...

Now if someone could do this for the iphone/ipad...
