Just hooked the free capture app from dslr controller to see if it works.
Works fine with a Galaxsy Tab2 10.1 and a 5d mkII.

Used the cable that came with the 5d and this cable from amazon: Cable (external link)

Tried the cheap card reader one and it broke before I could get cables hooked up.

Download the full app tomorrow and start working on a holder for the Tab on my shoulder rig.

Anyone know if Magic Lantern can be used with a separate screen??

For those Samsung Galaxy Tab2 owners. this is what the DSLR Controller site says about compatibility....

"Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 - 7", 10.1"
We get a lot of problem reports with these models.
For as of yet unknown reasons, it seems recent firmwares are having some trouble with DSLR Controller on these devices for some users. For other users it works fine."

For me I am not going to spend $7.99 for a maybe it'll work, but that's just me.

Yup I like cigars. 7d, T1i and a bunch of other junk.

There is a test app before you buy. Try the Remote Release (USB) and see if that works for your android tablet.

Tried that with the tab 2, works fine. Probably try the full app this week. Will report if it works when I know.

What is the resolution the live view is streamed at to tablet? Can it be higher than the camera display resolution? I just bought a high end Chinese android tablet with retina 2048x1536 pixels screen, in part to be able to use it with my 50D as a remote display. It'd be cool if I could get the whole 3 megapixels Live View stream.

Working with tab2 at least until I somehow switched off the view screen. Hate reading directions!

Well I have a Galaxy Note 2 and it does not work. It does not recognize the Camera, a 7D. I already ordered other cables since I can connect the Camera to my laptop and rapidly recognizes it.

Is this like plug and play? Does the Camera needs a special setting or something. My phone is running Android 4.2.1 OS and it is supposed to work.

I have found that there are quite a variety of cable quality control out there. I ordered several identical cables, and 2 of the 5 did not work. (I use them for watching movies on my Nexus 7 also).

However for $2 or $3 I can over order and either not have lost much on a failure, or have spares.

FWIW: I've had dozens of cables from Monoprice.com, and never had a bad cable. micro USB, iPhone, HDMI, Cat 5/6, etc.

BIG news from the maker of DSLR Controller!!

A few day's ago DSLR Controller for WiFi stick has been released and now also DSLR Controller self got updated with a lot of improvements.

The change-logs are here: http://dslrcontroller.com/download.php#changelog-099-0 (external link)

Back to the WiFi stick version. This a separate APP that is works totally autonomic after setting it up once. It runs on multicore Android sticks which are normally used to run Android on your TV through the HDMI port.

You need the DSLR controller APP, a Android stick and power supply to power the stick through USB so a powerbank is mostly used. You connect the camera and the USB power to the stick where the stick version of DSLR Controller has been installed. Switch on the powersupply and the camera and after about 60 seconds the mirror of the camera goes up and down to inform you that all is running correctly.

Now you take your Andoid phone or tablet and look for the network where the stick is running and if there is no network available the stick creates his own network. Now tap on DSLR Controller and you can control the camera.

A lot of effort went in manually optimizing the transmission of liveview and video and you hardly notice that you are working over Wifi to receive liveview.

A video demonstrating the usage of DLSR Controller WiFi stick can be seen here: http://dslrcontroller.com/news-wifi_stick.php (external link)
If you don't have comment standard switched on in you Youtube player then you miss the statements that since taking the video the liveview and video performance has improved a lot.

I am writing this as an enthusiastic user of the two APPs and am not in any way affiliated to the writer of these APPs.
