Try the following website for a baseline setting for your 20D:

Lets see some photos, give us some settings and give us an idea of lighting and we might be able to help out.

I dont think that the SI site will help in this situation as it sounds like you just had your exposure settings really wrong. The SI site is worth looking at, but it will help with general setup, not exposure issues.

Was the lens cap left on? J/K. But anway way, it could be IS0 100 set at F/16.... Like said above hard to say with out pics. On your left hand side, quick the INFO Button for the pictures that are "black" to see the settings you had

I don't really have any experience with that camera, so I can't really be of help. I must say, though, the XPSL pictures I just viewed were quite good. For those of you who don't know, the paintball he is taking pictures of is extremely fast paced. Provides an opportunity to get some amazing shots.

Again, very nice pictures, and I hope you get your camera problem fixed.

Hi Sean,

Believe it or not I have done this also when I was first starting shooting paintball. One of the problems with shooting our sport is you have to wear a paintball mask. Because of the mask your eye is much further from the camera and as a result of this you can not see the numbers blinking on the bottom of the view finder. When the number blink that means the picture will not be exposed correctly. Also the environment in which we work is a very dirty and oily one so I it is hard to do much chimping (i.e. looking at the screen on the back of the camera body).

The event was difficult to shoot due to the poor lighting conditions, I usually post my best ones here but I did not get any that I wanted to post.

One of the advantages of the multi-day events is you have the opportunity at the end of each day to re-evaluate you pictures as you up-load them to your lap-top.

Don’t sweat it; it was only a kid’s tourney, and a good learning experience.
There will be more events…at least you got to try out some of my BIG glass ;-)a

BTW to cheer you up you "flying paintball player" was submitted to PB2X…its likely get published
