Every year the Zone Fun Fly is held about a half hours drive from my home & for once we had a beautiful (but hot) bright sunny sky on day 1, but that proved to be a real challenge because the field layout forces us to fly / photograph while facing the sun.
this is a sampling of what flew this year.

This Rafale is scratch built & gas turbine powered.

Love the Rafale. Those models are just amazing compared to what we used to have. Nice shots & prop blur!

Thanks to both of you. Frank the hobby has really changed over the years, and electric powered planes are really making giant strides in changing it even more. I'll be posting some from last weekends all electric event in a day or 2 that put things into perspective re the possibilities.

Re the Rafale it's the replacement for this one.

Which had some kind of radio failure about 3/4 of it's first circuit last year. I looked up (after photographing a low pass by another jet) just in time to see the last hunderd feet of it's fall which then turned into this.

At the time there weren't ANY extinguishers on the flight line nor on the 4 wheeler "fetch" vehicle they use when a plane doesn't make it back to the runway. That was quickly changed & it's now policy to have them everywhere they might be needed. They did get the fire out but the plane & turbine were a write off. The gas turbine guys use CO2 but the field only had dry chem extinguishers, which ruin a gas turbine or at least force it to be totally torn down depending on circumstances.

Frank, I really think the LED's make the photo, and very few who've seen it realized it was a model until told.

Thanks Randy, I'm looking forward to the next event which is 2 weeks away & the large scale Pitts will be there along with other large scale planes of all kinds. Hopefully our weather will co operate because that field has the sun behind us allowing great lighting.
