Great landscape series! I love the mist rolling in in the first one, and the way the curve of the road draws you in in the last, but they're all good!
Did you see any bighorns on the Mt Washburn hike? We're leaving in just over 2 weeks and we're thinking of that hike , or perhaps a portion of it if there are sights to see without hitting the summit. (Not sure of the time factor and can't commit 1/2 day to a hike)
Yes, we have seen big horn sheep on our last two hikes up Mt. Washburn. If seeing sheep is your goal, I would advise taking the northern Chittendon Road trail instead of the southern Dunraven Pass trail. We had no luck seeing any wildlife on our two hikes up the Dunraven side. For this reason, we prefer the Chittendon route. The sheep can be seen quite close-up. Both photos below were taken with a standard zoom lens -- Canon 17-55 f/2.8 for the first, and Sigma 17-70 for the second.
Plan on 3-4 hours for a hike to the summit and back. Personally, I think it's worth the time, as the view from the summit is incredible. On a clear day, you can see all the way to the Tetons. The sheep are usually on the upper portion of the mountain in the summer, but I'm not sure where they will be in the fall.
Here is a shot from the summit. You can see the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and Hayden Valley in the background.
