Upgraded from a 60D to a 5D Mark ii, decided to test my lenses' AF on the new body...

And I saw that my Sigma 50mm is front focusing like a b*tch on it:

Sigma 50mm f1.4 AF:

How I can get it when I manual focus it:

Should I fix it with MA or should I send it in?

I'll probably post results of my other lenses too once I get them done.

MFA is there for a reason! If it is within the fixing range of MFA, give it a shot. If not, then I'd send it in for calibration.

Is there any disadvantage to using MFA as opposed to sending it in?

Pretty sure it's within the fixing range... doubt it would take more than 10

Oh, and I'm loving this camera, by the way.

Sigma 85mm f1.4:

Looks miniscule... probably only needs 1 or 2 MA points. Not much to worry about here.

Same as the 85 Sigma. We're talking just 1 or 2 MA points.

My 24-105mm f4 is literally spot on, as is my 17-40mm f4.

No need to post those.

mpineda10, just google Lens focusing test. There's plenty of high resolution ones out there that are super similar to this one.

mattjns93, are there any disadvantages with MFA?

So my 50mm requires an MA of 20...

should I send it in, or just live with MA 20? Is there any downside to MA 20?

Charts crooked and far from flat. I wouldn't trust what I was getting from this setup...

i wouldnt trust this setup and the chart either..

i usually use a setup like the first pic below -focusing on a plane which is parallell to the sensor/focal plane and so large it covers the entire centre focus-spot so theres no possibility of confusion.. What you focus on should not be at an angle, only the reference scale. This principle is what canon use themselves -see pic 2 and 3 -I got these from them once they calibrated a lens for me.

I also combine my setup with remote shooting in eos utility so theres no possibility of user-error in any way -all digital.. also in eos utility/remoteshooting you have the option to nudge focus back and forth and one nudge equals one unit of MA-correction. cant get it more precise with a homemade temporary setup.

(the button with red ring is for AF, the ones below are for manually nudging focus..)
