Look ... you can get a bit crazy chasing after 'lists'. The Big Five list is Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Bufallo - the most dangerous animals in Africa - and Kruger is Big Five country! Like love, there is no point in chasing around trying to locate these critters. Just do what you need to ... go with the moment and set out each day to find what you can, watching the signs, taking shots when you see stuff you like.

Fabulous work. Again, KUDOS.

Have plenty of Canons, enough ammo, enough to blow 'em to "L". Now, I just have to learn to aim.

I have to agree with the others. These shots are excellent. The leapord is stellar and I also personally really like the tight portrait of the water buffalo. Thanks for sharing.

again, great work. I agree, many people get way to wrapped up in ticking animals off their list. Especially in South Africa, where they market the 'big 5' so much. It's nice to see a variety of animals, but it's even nicer to have truly great sightings, and actually spend some time observing the ones you do get to see.

The "Big 5" were traditionally the 5 most dangerous animals for big game hunters to track (on foot), hunt, and kill... I suppose hippo wouldn't make the list, because they would be very easy to approach when they were in the water - but who knows.

Agree 100%!

The Hippo claims more lives so is most 'dangerous' I guess if that's the criteria used to make a judgement. In the old days it was about danger to hunters and shooting a Hippo would actually be like like shooting fish in a barrel - they're just in the water or lying in the open. Many Hippo problems are due to locals using Hippo paths to cut through to water. If the Hippo finds someone blocking the path they will attack.

Thanks so much guys! The Leopard came out way better than expected. After sundown, high ISO, mid range zoom used wide open!!

Dave,

Just went through all the threads, and they're amazing shots.....each and every one in its own way.

Must say though, the shots of the leopard in the tree just blew me away, especially given the light conditions you had to work with.

Congratulations on a great GAPS IV my friend!!

:)

:) Anne

Cheers for comments - appreciate it! Eaglssong, the Leopard was a real lucky shot. Just stayed still long enough to avoid blur on this image.
