Scott M, - Someday maybe Hawaii will be an option, but I REALLY love the thought of photographing whales with mountains in the background. I also love Alaska's reputation for having great wildlife. It's just a dreamspot for me. :) My number one vacation choice would be to go to Silver Bank (Dominican Republic) where my population of whales heads for their breeding and calving season. They actually have excursions there where you can swim with them. Man would I be in heaven!! Someday.... :)

Shaisgs, - Thank you! :)

Becca, - I know exactly what you mean about talking to Mason. He is brilliant when it comes to these whales. I don't think there's a person out there who knows these whales better than he does. Hopefully sometime soon you'll be able to come back for a visit to see them again. :)

winam, - Thank you. :)

- Mandy

Amazing I would love to go see this in person.

Buying a Canon doesn't make you a photographer. It makes you a Canon owner.

Absolutely amazing! I just got back from Alaska and saw a few whales, but nothing like that!

Very nice Mandy. I love whale tales as much as anything else :)

I tried really hard to get a "Bar fight" between 2 males vying for a female (Off of Maui) but there was so much water splashing that it wasn't possible. With your permission, I will post the shot I got which shows how much water a 50 foot humpback can disperse. :)

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

emelvee, it has been hit or miss with this type of activity. Some days we get it all and others we get very little activity. It all matters on what's happening with their food source. :)

Maureen, no permission needed. Go ahead and post! I'd love to see it! :)

For those of you who are interested, I went out again on 8/13/11 and had one of the best days I've had to date! There were several Humpbacks feeding in large groups. They put on one heck of a show for us. I didn't take many photos because I really wanted some video and I've already put it up on Youtube. If you'd like to check it out, here's the link: http://www.youtube.com …0SETBg4FKbw&feature=share (external link) :)
