Hi can someone help. I'm trying to control my Canon 50D using the remote shooting mode in EOS utility on my desk top. I have it working with the mini usb cable the camera came with but can't get it to work with a 5 meter usb cable. The computer keeps asking for driver for this cable.

As anyone got any suggestions Thanks

Five metres is the maximum length cord you can use on USB and many devices won't work on that length, you appear to have added the Canon cord to that 5 metres so you are relying on luck.

I suggest a shorter cord.

If you buy an active repeater USB cable, I have gone 100 feet, no problem. Without active repeater, it is nearly impossible to go five feet. I've tried it both ways...

I wonder if the video editors on The Titanic ever went, "Sorry, I can't right now. I'm busy synching the Titanic..."

As others have stated, 5m is at the edge for standard USB. I've gone +10m with an repeater:

Edit: Are you using a repeater cable? Windows generally doesn't ask for a driver for a stock extension cable. If you have a repeater, you'll need to driver, does the cable have any marking or ident?

....the best camera is the one you have on you at the time.
