Smoky Hill Air National Guard Range held an open house on August 7, 2011.

This was a great opportunity to see some Air Force planes doing their daily jobs, expending ordinance.

I took my Rebel XTi and a rented 400mm f/5.6L out to play and had a blast.

Here are some of the pics I took at the show. I have many more if you want to see them.

Looks like a fun way to spend a day. Our nearest live fire range in Gila Bend would probably never do something like this. They only allow small groups by invitation.

Thanks for the comments.

Yes, it was a fun day, just wish the B1s could have made it.

The range does this every other year, so if you're interested be looking for the date early in August 2013.

Might be hard to go to any other air show now and not expect to see some gun action.

Yes, that is a very good picture Jay.

I wanted to take one like that, but I was at the wrong end of the viewing area and I doubt my lens was long enough to get that type of shot.

But there's always next time.
