D10, what's going on?

I've been looking into a camera that I can have my 3 year old son use. I've been considering a waterproof p&s camera that I can survive a 1m drop. It needs to be somewhat toddler resistent and can take decent pictures in the $150-$200 range. I've been waiting for a price drop or a good deal on the D10 but haven't found one yet as the $300 price just prices it out of my range. The ability to take videos is required, SD is ok.

I noticed today that the Canon D10 is no longer available from Amazon.com (3rd party sellers have it, but not Amazon.com directly). Also, Canon online refurbished store hasn't had the D10 in stock for a while (either that or I keep missing it as I'd trade another broken P&S in the CLP.)

Anyone have any rumors (or opinions) that the D10 is either going to get replaced or discontinued by Canon? Or is this just a stock issue with Amazon.com?

Any suggestions for a D10 alternative to suit my needs?

Price range: $150-200
PQ: has to be somewhat decent
Video capabilities: SD required, HD is a nice to have.
Waterproof: up to 3m
Toddler resistent: up to 1m drop

The D10 is a very old camera, almost as old as your son.
Its replacement is long overdue, so perhaps it will be included in this summer's announcements.
If you don't want to wait and gamble, you can get either the Olympus TG-310 or the Fuji XP30.

sure why not? If you have the money to not buy a 'toy' camera for your kid. Heck my kids had a few S2-IS's laying around to play with for the longest time & those took a good beating & still work... they are in a toybox somewhere... ( & people were squaking about articulating screens... & had 4, 4 year olds futsing w/ those things 3 yrs later... still better than a toy camera )

I don't think that Canon would really add much to a D10 successor except changing the sensor to the 1/2.3" CMOS sensor of the SX220/SX230.

That's what I've been hoping that the D10 would drop down in price, but I'm still waiting.

We have a $50 toy camera today for him. UI is hard to use and navigate, recycle time between shots is 5 seconds, 15 seconds with flash flash, and the pictures are just terrible. I have to get a usable picture in daylight. Indoor pictures are impossible. Maybe the Lego one is better, but his current toy camera is just trash.

I had an old SD400 and bought the SD400 waterproof camera case for it on craigslist, but the camera died the very next day after I bought the camera case.

The Pentax looks like it would fit the bill, but the price tag is still around the same as the current D10.

So, I'm still on the lookout for a camera. I could probably just wait another year until he's only enough to understand to be a little more careful.

B&H is currently out of stock.

A D10 replacement was rumored to be coming out last summer, but it never happened. I'm guessing it may happen this fall with the crop of new/updated Powershots coming out.

I have to disagree with Jon on what Canon could add to the D10. The D10 was Canon's first try at a waterproof/shockproof camera, and it had some technical issues with lens movement. Since the D10 has come out, there have been many technical advancements in the compact camera class, so I believe that if a successor does appear, it will be much improved over the current D10 (not that the D10 is bad at all -- it's definitely not).

In terms of availability and cost, I'd suggest looking on eBay for a deal. I did a quick search and there is one kit on sale right now from a reputable seller for less than $100.
