Hiking up to the top of these dunes was one of the tougher workouts I have ever had in my life because the sand was so dry and loose. At the top it was like getting a sand blasted exfoliation from the winds.....but it was all worth it.

This was sunset on another day, from down at the riverbed level.

Outstanding. Great colors and the texture in the foreground is too cool.

Thanks Bill, I really appreciate the kind words.

If only I wasn't getting sand blasted at the top, I could have taken more shots. I had to keep my back perfectly to the east or else my face would get pelted with the sand in the wind. One of these days I'll take another shot at it.

It can get that way on the sands at the outer banks of NC too.
30+ years ago after a day on the beach my new 135 sounded like a pepper grinder when you turned the focus ring. I was terrified. The guy at the camera shop just told me to wait until the grease inside did its job. It quieted down and there's still a load of sand in it, I guess. :)

Looks like a place to plan to return to.

Hopefully it will get to that point, one day. I've been putting it off thinking I need more images before I start to put myself out there. But, I think I have enough to start, I just need to get going with it.

I've been getting some advice from Jon, who is already putting his images out there. I remember the first time I met Jon, we met at the Railroad Museum in Golden, CO. He comes walking in with a photo he took there on his last trip, showed it to the people that run the museum, and they hung it on the wall for him. I learned right then and there that if you don't ask you won't ever get your work on the wall.

I hear ya. I've posted some of my best shots on FB just to see what kind of reaction I would get, of course most people love them, but I still wonder. I entered a few in this week's county fair and have really high hopes for a HDR B&W pic, but judging from reaction on my Flickr account, I missed the train with a recent HDR I did. I think I'll focus a little more on getting myself out there this winter after I retun from CO next week, hopefully with some money shots.
