As you can see from my signature I own too much glass. I need your recommendations on what to eliminate or consolidate. I just can't pack a bag with it all. So what should I sell?

I like to shoot sports, and portrait and landscapes if I can get it right. So I will keep the 85mm and 135mm. I also will hang onto the 100mm Macro for flowers. Everything else is open for discussion. Most where bought used at what I consider very good prices so a lot will be lost if I sell it.

I already plan to sell the EF 300mm f/4 IS. I am now using the 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6. I wanted the longer reach an flexibility.

Your help is needed.

Mail me what you don't want.

I'll start...24-70 and 24-105....each has their respective positives....does f2.8 outweigh IS? It did for me.

Don't choose what to sell, choose what to keep.
I'll start from what I use the most, and sort it's most usage.

In addition to the 24-70 and 24-105 overlap, the 200 2.8 prime isn't really needed. I'd also ditch the 50L and probably the 15 prime as well.

Maybe you just need another bag? :D

Looks like a pretty nice setup to me...

You could separate out the duplicate coverage and have a "walk-around bag" with the lighter weight setup, and a "serious shoot bag" with the heavy guns.;)

This is what I would do:

1) Sell 100 f/2.8L Macro,135 f/2.0L, 200 f/2.8L II, 70-200 f/2.8L IS (get the new one).. that should cover for the 100/135/200..thats very redundant..unless u shoot macro..then keep the 100

2) 17-40L, 15 f/2.8 FE shows that you really don't shoot wide angle that much...I would consider consolidating into a Zeiss 21 f/2.8

3) 300 f/4L IS unnecessary with 70-200/100-400...sell the 1.4x II and can get a 1.4x III

4) dump the 24-70 f/2.8..you have 35/50 covered in fast glass..keep the 24-105 as IS duty

okay i'm done :)

or just get a bigger bag

So why are you eliminating lenses again? I was going to recommend you pickup a 24L :)

sell all zooms keep the primes. keep 70-200 because it is helpful for sports. especially the field ones where you need the close shots and use your tele primes to get mid field

I'd keep most your zooms.
Sell list: (Depending if you use it enough for your taste of course)
24-70 or 24-105. Take your pick, I don't think it's worth it to have both.
15mm FE
200mm Prime. Kinda redundant with the 70-200 2.8L Sure, primes are sharper, but with the lens change it kinda wrecks it. If it was an f/2 I'd say keep it, but it's not. :)
Other than that...I'd want to keep it all. In fact, If I had that set up, I wouldn't even size down unless I was strapped for cash.

Why do you think we could tell you what to get rid of? We do not go out with you when you use your camera so we really have no idea of which lenses you use.

Why not put a little white sticker on the lens caps and everytime you use a lens put a hash mark on the sticker. After a few months look at the stickers and see which lenses you use the most and which you use the least. That way the decision will be based upon YOUR use vs. someone elses......

Right now I have 4 lenses sitting on a shelf that I haven't used in months.... guess which lenses I would sell first!

You do have a lot of glass, but there is no such thing as too much glass.

Out of that list I'd get rid of the 50 1.2

You have a similar rig as I did until giving up the sports shooting after basketball season ended this spring. At the time, my goal was to have a body / lens lineup that was both versatile and provided 'double-duty' service on both bodies. Here's the lineup and for me, worked great:

Bodies: 7D / 5DII

Lenses: 50mm 85mm 135mm primes. a 70-200 f/2.8L IS. This lens lineup covered football, basketball and portrait work.

Since then, I've offed the 7D and added the lenses below in my sig.

In YOUR case, I would:

Keep the 35L, the 85mm sigma, the 70-200 f/4L and the 300 f/4L. If you're shooting indoor basketball, the Sigma 85mm is up to the task. Other recommendation: Skip the 50mm and the 135 has you've got the shorter end covered with the 35 and the 135 inside the 70-200.
