My friend has a beagle and loves it. He says the only downside is the high activity level and strong vocal power of the animal. They need to be walked regularly and have a very loud bark. Other than that, they are beautiful dogs.

Might I speak a few words as to the virtues of the noble Pembroke Welsh Corgi??

High activity level isn't a problem.....Actually, it would be a good reason for us to get out more often.....hehe. As for the loud bark, that's one thing I read about and I think I could handle. I also read that once they get on a scent, they have to follow it......dang hound.....hehe. ;)

I figured you would pop in something about the Corgi.....hehe. I'll have to read up on them, as I never really considered them initially.

**Raises his hand in the air**

Umm.....question......Anyone here ever owned a Beagle? Reason I ask, is that my wife really wants a dog (and I wouldn't mind another one eventually as well), and I've been looking up different breeds that I think I might like.

You can learn a lot about them here (external link). :D

Oh, to watch a beagle is funny. They constantly sniff/track everything around them when you walk them. They are relentless in their back and forth scanning of scents.

Here's some random Corgi info

Yeah?

I dunno. Pure breds ain't cheap though. We got our Corgis super cheap in Texas for $500 each, but in Northern VA they average over $1000 each for pure-breds.
