I'm no flash expert and was in the same boat getting overexposed faces with the flash. What I did was meter the background (underexpose a bit even) and set the flash (430ex ii in my case) to ETTL and just click. Looked good enough for me.

Here's a vid tutorial that helped me understand some of the concepts.

Yeah, when I run 90-100 I am able to much further without breaking down, if I really push it I will run out of gas, but the recovery tends to be rather quick.

to keep this thread on track, this is the first tim e my kid rode a bike without training wheels

leaving a friends house after a BBQ a t 9pm he grabs the bike and tells me he could ride it

i was so happy i didn't notice he was wearing a pink helmet (Photoshop time) :lol:

Oh okay for the flash, I forgot to say, the meter doesn't work at all! I just stopped using it and put the SS at 200 and ISO at 100 and its' like being in apature priority mode, I can change the app. It's so weird. Camera in M, Flash in AUTO but the metere doesn't seem to work. I'll try again in a few.
