General Questions About G6 Accessories

Hi, I'm new to this forum and have already learned a lot from previous posts (This seems to be a really great forum!!). I'm looking into purchasing a polarizer and was looking at the Hoya Circular HMC Polarizer. I've gathered that with the Powershot G6, my choices are a 52mm or 58mm. What, exactly is the difference, is it just a size thing? Do I need a step ring for either of these? If i were to purchase a Canon SLR in the future, would I be able to use this polarizer with an appropriate step ring? Also, I began looking for filters on ebay and found this package:

http://cgi.ebay.com …ZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem (external link)

I'm assuming that it's junk, considering the price. The filters do not appear to be as good as the Hoya filters, but I'm a beginner and just not sure. I don't want to buy junk, but I don't want to end up paying too much for a brand name.

Thanks for any replies!!

I also got a G6 and learned everything from this forum...the 52 or 58 filter just depends on what size adoptor you have. Check this place out if you've not already...www.lensmateonline.com (external link). Someone here told me about it and that's where I got all my G6 attachments.

Thank you. I have looked at that web site. People using this forum seem to highly recommend Lensmate. What accessories do you think are most useful? I take a lot of outdoor shots; I'm thinking about the polarizer and a nice tripod.

sinces there're only so much you can get for the G6, I pretty much got everything except for the macro lens... that's next. I have to polarizer, that's very helpful on super sunny days and shooting water. My new toy right now is the IR lens. I also use the wideangle and the teleconverter alot too.

I also REALLY like the Op/Tech wrist strap. I've got one for each of my 4 cameras.

Canon's standard adapter is 58mm, not 52mm. If you plan on adding the Canon wide angle lens or the "telephoto" lens, you'll need the 58mm size.

I have got my 52mm adapter and a B/W UV filter. The filter works fine before my gf dropped some butter on it. Now I have to figure out how to clean it thoroughly.

As for the LensMate adapter, I think it's okay, not that fancy. Probably it's because my expectation was higher. DON'T buy their lens hood though, it feels cheap.

Where do you get an IR for the G6?
