I'm so excited! I just ordered the Canon 7D through the Loyalty Program--what a great price!!! Now I would like to get a good field guide to help me learn everything there is to know about this camera. I see Amazon has a few and wondered which one you would recommend:

David Busch's Canon EOS 7D Guide to Digital SLR Photography: http://www.amazon.com …TF8&qid=1312896918&sr=1-1 (external link)

Canon EOS 7D Digital Field Guide by Charlotte Lowrie: http://www.amazon.com …TF8&qid=1312896918&sr=1-3 (external link)

Magic Lantern Guides: Canon EOS 7D by Michael Guncheon: http://www.amazon.com …TF8&qid=1312896918&sr=1-4 (external link)

Thanks. I didn't know about the tutorial. I'll also check out that book. I like to have a book to refer to, also.

You could also try your local library. They may have a variety of books on the 7D (as well as on other models) that you can check out for free.

The user manual is more than adequate. Why buy another manual?

It obviously isn't for many people, or there wouldn't be the Magic Lantern series or a host of other books around camera models. It may be for you and me, but not everyone can get into the dry contents of the factory manual.

+2 on this one.

I keep it on my iPad and iPhone so I can reference it in the field.

Because a camera manual, like that of a car, tells you where and what the features are. The manuals do not tell you how best to use the features to get where you want to go. ;)

go with David's book, it is a really well put together and helps you understand the features of the 7d, the manual tell's you the features of your camera in a short point by point form where David really describes the features and capabilities as well as goes into lighting and other stuff that the canon manual doesn't.
