I like PSP better than elements 9, but I' not a 'power user'. Most editing I do is with DPP. I only use elements for the healing brush tool which works great. PSP doesn't have the healing brush.

I casually used PaintShop Pro for several years (mostly because of the low price) and found it adequate. But, the lack of good tutorials and forums made it frustrating, particularly when I'd try to figure out a technique and Google would produce twenty great Photoshop tutorials and not a single PaintShop result.

PaintShop Pro is regularly available at Fry's for no net cost (free after rebate) but Photoshop student edition is only $160. For the amount of time it takes to become competent in either of these programs, the initial cost should not be the primary consideration.

And remember, all Adobe products can be downloaded and used for 30 days at no cost.

Replacing my Canon 7D, Tokina 12-24mm, Canon 17-55mm, Sigma 30mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.4, and 150-500mm with a Panasonic Lumix FZ1000. I still have the 17-55 and the 30 available for sale.

Ya, I have Photoshop and Lightroom... I was just wondering since the cost was so low.

Photoshop is a bit over my head many times....I spend as much time watching or reading tutorials online as I do using the software. But.....I guess it'll let you do anything if you know how.

PaintShop does a few things more easily (for example, there is a mode that offers simple touch-up tools) but mostly it just does things differently. Perhaps I'm just not intelligent enough but I have a horrible time switching between different programs that do the same things.
