I think 60 miles would be the farthest I'd go, but it would depend on what I needed at the time.

60 miles is work and back for me, which isn't much in Phoenix.

However, if I'm in somewhere like the Baltimore area, it would be like 15 miles because of the horrendous traffic.

So I guess it would depend on where I'm at too.

Depends on how bad I need it.
If I absolutely need it for a job the same day, I wouldn't really have to many options. Since I refuse to drive myself, I would most likely just have it delivered by motorcycle courier or similar which is also faster.

Hmm, good question.
I did once take a train to York for a prime lense :D (10 Pounds ticket, standard return on the train)

The other question is "where do you live" - go to the Ruhr Area in Germany and going through several towns to find a lens isn't difficult any more ;):)

In the end, as people have said, the key question is "how important is the item to you".
Because most places are close in Europe, going to the nearest town often isn't an issue at all - if the next place in the US or somewhere else is far away, well...

And holidays: Well, I stick to large towns :)

On a side note though: I did go to London for a Passport :D (German Passport in the UK) - I could have gone to the consulate in Leeds and pay them to send the forms down to London... OK? Might as well go there... -> 2,5 hours on the train.
