My 580EX Flash recently stopped working. I took a few photos with flash on and heard a loud popping noise and then the flash no longer works. The infrared light at the front of the flash is "ON" constantly even if the 580EX is not mounted. The pilot button is light "GREEN" about 50%. There is no display on the back screen and none of the buttons work.

Has anyone ever experienced this problem and what could be the issue with my 580EX Flash?

How long have you used your flash? the flash tube inside is a light bulb when it come downs to it so much like larger strobes they will burn out. I would check to see if thats what happened to you.

I've used it for over 1 year and I have replaced flash before in the past. Not sure what's the problem now, but the Pilot light was lit green when the power is turned on. Now the Pilot light or display screen has no power to light up.

sounds like the capacitor is blown; it is not a DIY fix.
