New to the Game

I just registered here after looking at some posts on wedding photography and some reviews of 5d's.

Currently I'm using an XSI or is it A XSI, I have never been able to figure that out because you pronounce x with an E ( must be one of life's mysteries)

Anyways I'm 24, I use the XSI and would like to upgrade to the 5dc or 5d2 or wait a bit longer for the 5d3.
with the XSI I have the craptastic 18-55 kit lens, a Nifty Fifty 1.8, and another somewhat kit 75-300 1:4-5.6.

my goal is to take photography to the next level most likely wedding and related. But would love to do sports at some point.

Welcome. With so many shots it really is difficult to know where to begin so I'll pick one thing for improvement: Watch lines that should be horizontal or vertical are not tilted. That applies to 2, 14, 15, 16, 22.

I agree with you 100 percent i was noticing this during shoot but was really having a hard time because there were so many lines at the stadium.
i need to take more time lining up the shot or atleast pay more attention to the background

the 1st one is WAY overdone - you dont need to make people look like there made of glass -

I'd definitely tone down the processing a bit, especially the skin smoothing; become more comfortable with getting it right in the camera before getting adventurous with the post processing.

That said, I like the majority of the shots you took with the nifty fifty. Looks like it a fun couple.

Also, I had a MK3 Supra about 10yrs ago, loved that car so much (when it worked). What year do you have?

I dont actually have a supra anymore but when i did it was an 87 turbo and an 86.5 n/a the name has stuck with me since i currently drive an s2000.

I like some of your processing, too. But be careful with that...

Being more specific, and bear in mind everyone's opinions/methods/style​s differ, in #1 the processing doesn't really work.

#2 you'd do sooooo much better with better gear. But if sports is an area you're keen on, maybe look at a 7D, or wait to see if the 5D3 has better AF and burst mode.

Of the other shots, #5 is sweet; #12 & #13 could be processed more, IMO, and made into a series, along with #15 and #17; and #14 and #22 show you can use your computer!

So, keep at it, consider/think about/ponder on which lens(es) you really need before buying any, and I'll repeat that perhaps you could wait for a 5D3....or try a 7D.

i was gunna search around the forums to see if anyone else is having my dilemma I mean Idk when the 5d3 is coming out. Im about to start an apprenticeship with a family friend who does wedding photography and since thats where the bread and butter is, thats where im thinking i should get a 5d it would be nice if the markII was faster but its not and I need a body soon but what if the Mark III is overpriced my feeling is sure id like to do sports photography but its something i can save up and buy a seperate body for later and maybe a nice zoom lense to go with it.

I dont know why i posted pic #1 I guess the lady in the pick liked it so much i figured there was something i did right in it. I actually have much better pics of the kid in the first pic. #1 was actually taken in the gym and the lighting was poor and my lenses are slow so it took alot of post work to get it to look decent, but i agree it was over done.
