You picked a great subject, but the background is blown out and the rest of the frame doesn't have enough contrast. Try an HDR on this type of shot when there is a bright sun and shadow. If you turn on your "Image Editing OK" someone could turn it into a shot you'd be proud of. Keep shooting--it'll come!

same as irishman- what you might want to try if its possible, go back at a different time of the day with better light on the scene. hdr is always an option also, just not my style.

I've shot the mill more times than I can count and morning is the worst time to shoot it. You want to go late in the afternoon to catch the last light hitting the mill.

Very nice composition. A GND would help with exposing the sky

Really liked your subject and composition and thought I'd play with it a bit.
When I have some blown highlights on a subject like this, I like to give it the look
of a painting so I can give it some contrast without looking like an overprocessed
photo.
Just one perspective...alot of incredible photoshoppers in here that can do your photo justice.

Djphatjive, I did see a subaru Outback up there, but there are some spots with low clearance. Happy to give you a ride up one day if you want to meet up.

Its going to be really hard to do anything with the burned out sky other than replace it completely which will require a pixel level editing due to the highly detailed tree outline. Here all I did was crop most of it out, decreased the overall contrast and selectively decreased the contrast in the sky. I do like the crop a lot!
