Residue on mirror of 5D MKII

I just received a 5D MKII from Canon yesterday and when I was looking at the mirror, if I held it at a certain angle, it looks like there is a light residue on the lower part of the mirror nearest the front of the camera. I can't see that it makes any difference when I look throught the viewfinder, but I was wondering if I can touch the mirror with a cleaning cloth to see if it will rub off. I've never touched the mirror in any of my cameras so I don't know if that is a no no.

I have cleaned mirrors with a microfiber towel with very, very little pressure. However if you cannot see it in the viewfinder, I wouldn't worry about it. It would have no other impacts to the functionality and IQ of the camera.

Set a calendar reminder for 3 weeks in the future to "clean the mirror", and then try to forget about it. When the reminder fires, decide if you still want to clean it. This works for me when I need to manage my OCD tendencies.

Well I set the reminder and it still bugged me so I ever so lightly touched it with a cleaning cloth and problem solved!! I guess I do have a slight OCD tendency, plus I needed to know that this wasn't an issue before the warranty expired.

Good for you, I have cleaned the mirrors myself as well, against the better judgment of many others. Patience, steadiness, and the correct materials are needed.

I guess a loofah's out of the question?

Mine just took two very light wipes on the edge of the mirror.
