Thanks for the link Tim - it's a very interesting site. However, the computer models don't look like the real thing, unlike the car on Lexus site, so I'm assuming that's done with photographs?

If you would like to see an example of the 360deg tour taken to an extreme, check this out:

The article gives a brief explanation of how the images were handled to create a gigapixel view. I dont recall if I picked the link up from POTN or elsewhere, but it's pretty neat stuff.

I believe that one was done with/or at least for Microsoft Silverlight.

Yes ofcourse it's 3d models built in a computer, perhaps i should have specified that in my previous post. Sorry i'm late with this reply, i had trouble finding this thread again. :)

When working with 3d graphics you have the full freedom of manipulating the product in whatever way you want, rotating it as you like, changing the color of for example a car, changing the interior clothing of a car, switch to different tires and rims and much much more. There are really no limits to what can be done except for the clients budget that usually determines what we can do for them.

And computer built 3d models applies to pretty much anything in advertising today, from your average juicebox to t-shirts, IKEA products, cars, iPod/iPad/iPhone commerial images, furniture and much much more.

Here is one example me and a friend worked on last year, it was a series of 3 images for Audi which they used in a advertising campaing in UK and Germany and probably somewhere else too. We built the models of the gearstick, the headlight and the windscreen you see in these images. Then we shot the background which is inside a real building and then the 3d models are composed into the backgroundplate and then everything is colorgraded and finally delivered to Audi's marketingdepartment.
