I don't know what to say, this one just hit and has become my most viewed, faved and commented photograph on flickr...

This made it on to Explore overnight, my first in a year or so; Explore seems to go clumps.

I do like this one WhyFi, but I preferred the one of the single bloom. Oh well nobody asks me!

Ha! I prefer the other, too, but it's Flickr, where isolation often beats out boring ol' everything in focus.

This one hit for me today, and it continues a disturbing trend for me...my third bird-related Explore in a row. My minimals have just been clicking recently...

That's great, Jason, I saw it but didn't realize it was by YOU! I just discovered this thread today - I've had quite a few photos on Explore (around 80 I believe) and do notice I'm on less frequently just now as I'm really busy at work so am not as active looking at the photos of others. I do try to run down the Explored ones though. I find that the top 25 - 30 are usually pretty good to excellent but a lot of rubbish on there too especially further down - lots of old UK buses and stuff like that!

Boy, now that's a question. In essence, Explore images are selected by a bot or algorithm, humans are not involved.

lol...thats way too much work. I've had some shots explored, idk how many. But as I always say.....I have no idea what's going on with explore. I don't expect it and I don't go looking for it.

Basically, you go around liking a lot of peoples photos and saving them as faves. Then , hopefully, they will do the same. Say you fave 400 (just a random out of the butt number) other peoples photos. You post a new photo and at least 200 of them fave that photo, you will pretty much get explored.


You scratch my back, I will scratch yours concept.

I really do not like it myself. Too many truly great works on there and never get any recognition at all.

Kind of like that, but no that simple. Spamming your contacts works against you, you gotta spread the love. Also, comments play an important role, and those are harder to come by than faves. And, another part of the puzzle is getting non-contacts to look at, fave and comment on your image.

And lets us not forget, the Flickr algorithm must deem your photo "interesting"; so your 200+faved photo may not be deemed "interesting" enough to Explore, but your other 50+faved image has been blessed to appear in the showcase. Just like my last two Explores (bird related), average viewer activity but high placing showcases, whereupon my more serious and preferred work (minimals, abstracts) with far better viewer activity went nowhere...not interesting enough per algorithm.

Flickr wants socially active members, hence the need to be social in Flickr in hopes of Exploring.
