While I was on holiday I encountered a strange thing with my 5D's batteries.
I have 3 Canon ones and 2 off-brand, but it occurred to all of them. When I popped in a freshly charged battery the indicator said it was full. I put my camera on after five minutes and the 'battery low' indicator shows up. After a few seconds it flashes, then I got the 'battery empty' indicator. I switch batteries, and the same thing happens. I put the first one again in and everything is fine. Full battery. I was able to shoot with it for 2 or 3 days. Next time, same thing with other batteries.

I use the battery grip all year, but when travelling I prefer to take it off for weight and size in my bag. So I was running on one battery instead of 2. At the end of the holiday I put the grip back on and I haven't had any issues since then.

Does anybody know what happend? Or had the same thing?

Bert,, did you fly to your holiday destination?

This happened to me once.. I fully charged three batteries,,one Canon, two 3rd party batteries. All three batteries are in top condition. Carried my gear as carry on luggage.

I flew from Vientiane via Bangkok (4 hr stop over, didn't use my camera) into Sydney..

Getting home, all three batteries were dead, not a trickle of charge. Charged them and they worked perfectly,,and have ever since. I have flown many times since,,it has never happened again.

No, I went on holiday by car.
It would have made sense more or less if it happend upon arrival, but they were fine for the first 8-9 days. All the time they were stored in a pelican case in a dry place.

Strange that they decharged on the plane. Did you ever found out why this happend?

No,, it never happened again, not even on the return flight to Vientiane.
