I'm hoping someone with more of left side brain can help me. I'm trying to come up with a to-be-cut foam template for my new pelican 1560.

The main requirement is landscape photography for the moment.

I also have the lid organizer, so the misc. items can pretty much fit in there.

The equipment that I'm considering taking with me:

  • 1D Mark IV + batteries (+2)
  • 1Ds Mark II (?) + battery (+1)
  • 50D (IR converted) + battery (+1)
  • Sigma 14mm f/2.8
  • EF 17-40mm f/4L
  • EF 24-105mm f/4L IS
  • EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS
  • Battery charger for 1D Mark IV
  • Battery charger for 50D
  • Filters, filters and more filters
  • Leatherman
  • Small Tool Kit
  • Bulb Blower + Solution + cloth
Thank you.

I suggest detaching the wires for the battery chargers and putting the wires in the "misc compartment".

That's a good idea. I wish the older Mark II chargers were a bit smaller though. That would make the choice easier.

This is what I have so far, I need to measure the top of the three chargers to see if I can fill all three or not.

Personally if I had a case like that with pick and pluck foam (I don't - I have a think take airport takeoff), I'd make sure of three things:

1 - Heavier items nearer the wheels for stability sake
2 - Enough padding in between the items
3 - Cameras placed together in a tight group, lenses in a linear group, misc items everywhere else.

What is "enough padding" between items? I was struggling with that. I was thinking 1/2" should be enough between the heavier items (bodies). The 70-200 I don't think is going to anywhere since it's very long.
