Having a 488 RC2,I needed to pick up an additional new tripod head.
I bought the new 498 RC2. For people that had both the old 488 RC2 and 498 RC2, a little "like" and "don't like" between the two would be helpful.
Thanks.

Howzabout you telling us what you've discovered. I don't have any of the new 49x family heads am interested in any performance differences. Skip Douglas

Aug 12, 2011 16:12 | #5 I bought my 498 yesterday at my local shop. Have not yet had a chance to compare "real results". Since the 488 was discontinued, the only option is the 498. Just looking to see if any real improvements. Does the friction control really help. That's all. Aug 13, 2011 07:55 | #7 All I am asking is how does it compare to the old one. It's not rocket science guys. Many new products that are released are for improvements, some to reduce costs. I am not looking for support to see if I made the right decision, just seeing how the new one compares to the old reliable 488.
