Not sure if a printer counts as an accessory but anyway..

My HP photosmart 8450 now thinks its a shredder. Anyone here with a recomendation for a home use photo printer in the $250-300 US range?
Thanks for your suggestions.

Canon Pixma Pro 9000 Mark II if you can catch one during Canon rebates.

typically run about $250 during that time.

a month or so ago there was a rebate going on, where the printer was already slashed by $200 ($450 to $250), and then had another $200 mail-in rebate.

there are also specials where you get a deal if you purchase a camera kit and printer.
you can probably find them brand new in the sell forum for people that took advantage of rebates but don't need the printer.

Question please. If not used for extended periods of time (3-4 months), do the ink cartridges dry up? And while on the subject, what's a replacement set of cartridges cost?

Can you explain? With my 8450 if it is running low on ink and I don't want to fork out money, I turn it into the "Black and White Only" mode and just print documents or an occasional B&W, but I've never seen it go into "shredding mode" -- that sounds scary:)!

I imagine -- such things are "fixable" if one wants to go through the hassle and shell out the money to a repair place...

Machines are taking over....

Anyway, i see a piece of broken wire about the size of a paper clip that maybe used to be part of a paper guide? sticking up and just hitting enough of the paper to cut it. I mangaged to bend it ot of the way so it will print now. But this gives me a good excuse to convince my wife we need a new printer.

Or its commenting on the quality of some of the photos I ran through it.

Hmm...well, considering the facct that you can pick up printers for a pretty low price, especially when you can find rebates on packages that include a full set of inks, and the fact that having repairs done on a printer will go over say $100, it might be good to have that talk with the wife!

There is a rebate program that expires tomorrow where the price is $349 and you get a 4200 REBATE FOR A NET OF $149 at Adorama and BH on the pro9000 MkII.

The 9000 and 9500 are much better about not clogging than the Epson's.
