Last two times I was in Houston, I had the same Lamborghini trying to goad me into a street race.

He probably lives in River Oaks. I remember seeing one lambo, the entire time I lived there and it was always the same guy. Literally. The rest drove maserati's and mercedes. Plenty of Ferrari's though. Lived just down the street from River Oaks. Depressing, at times. When one of their houses got burned down, though, it was not so depressing.... I digress.

Haven't had a chance to test it, yet. It rained all day yesterday. If I wake up before sundown, that's the first thing I'm going to do today ;)

Off to snores....

my jeebus, I leave to play games for one day and this thread booms over 20 new pages!! LOL

***Canon's 85 1.8 doesn't have autofocus issues, if at any, barely at all. If you're going Sigma 85 then it's a 50/50 chance it'll be hardcore delicious or a dud and needs to be calibrated.

I drive a daily car 08 Accord so there's no way I can drop a LS motor into those. Drive 2 hrs daily and I'm already at 75k on the stock engine ...sad face. Don't plan to tune it up either, I need it to live for my next project car the 08+ Lexus IS250...I'm in love with luxury type models. LOL

My biggest pet peeve though, when someone has a really nice car but a nasty sound it makes...*shutters*

----and, HOORAY WE GOT MORE CONTESTANTS!! You guys make me look bad though, I didn't come up with anything special about my contest entry. :(

Okay. So, not wanting to part with my nifty 250 for weeks, I inspected the contacts this morning. And, blew out the rear element area. Contacts didn't need cleaning. Which they shouldn't have. Now the lens seems to be focusing perfectly, and quickly, even in low light (indoors).

So, here's my question for all of those with a greater understanding of optics than myself: Is it possible for dust on a rear element to cause focusing issues?

Sure. If the dust caused the light to diffract and it lined up with one of the focus sensors it would cause it to go nuts.

I realized that there's something wrong with my 17-55 today. The EXIF info reports it at 55mm, even when it's not. :(. Same goes for when a flash unit is attached, 55mm no matter what. I did some research and it could be that a wire is loose or the encoder has failed. The first thing I checked was to see if the contacts were clean and free of any dirt...yup.

While it takes great pictures with no flash unit on and everything, it bugs me that focal length is recorded at 55mm no matter what. And, when I do have a flash on, it leads to some dodgy shots because of the wrong focal length being reported. Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeh.

I contacted the seller I bought it from and he's going to get me a copy of the original receipt, so hopefully it should be covered under warranty. Otherwise it's around $250 to repair through Canon. Hoping for the best.

There may have been a breeze blowing, but I don't recall it being enough to make the begonias move.

Interesting. I'll have to keep that in mind.

Thanks for the tips! I'm surprised at how much more complicated this camera is than my last one (a Canon SX10-IS). I thought I'd be able to just set everything on "auto" and get great shots. I've got a lot to learn.

Still, it sounds like the issues I'm experiencing are due to being a newbie with this camera/lens (based on the fact that I did get at least some nice sharp photos). That's a good thing. I was hoping that it wasn't a problem with the equipment.

This is all very inspiring to me. I've been into and out of photography for a long time, but the possibilities of what I can do with the new camera and lens is very exciting.

SteveMTNO

Steve-
Do some calibration tests with that lens. There are some tests that you can print out and put up on the wall and then you focus on one spot and take the pic and see if it was in focus. I have a tamron lens and always felt like my photos were soft and I never could figure out what I was doing wrong. Turns out it was the lens. I sent it back to Tamron and they recalibrated it. Covered by warranty. It is excellent now.

How many of you have peeling grips on your cams? If so do you plan on fixing yourself or warranty? My 1 yr is almost up so i'm thinking now is the time to send it in.

On my end... Nothing has come... hopefully this means he actually shipped something. He still refuses to give me any kind of tracking, so I don't know if this is a ploy or what? Ugh... Either way, PayPal should be refunding my money on/around 10/4 unless he supplies them with some kind of proof of shipment/delivery.
