MikeDee,

I've owned both and while the Canon does have a slight edge over the Siggy's sharpness, I would pick the Siggy anyday due to the cost savings. If money was no issue, of course, I'd pick the Canon... but given the ~$400-500 difference (used prices), I'd definitely take the Siggy.

Sigma's HSM is very comparable to Canon's USM, the Sigma 70-200/2.8 is no slouch and IMO is very capable of shooting sports.

You could always do what I did... buy the Sigma used, and continue savings... Once you get enough, sell the Sigma and buy the Canon. Good glass prices stay pretty constant and as long as you pay close to market rate on the Sigma, you shouldn't lose any money.

Thanks for the advice, sounds reasonable. Now to find a used siggy.

Rocky, how do you like the Sigma 70-200? Have you shot any sports or fast action with it? I need a faster lens for my Son's hockey games and I'm saving for the Canon 70-200 F/2.8 but debating the Sigma for the $$ savings.

I have not shot any sports yet; mostly doing family/friends, and my pets. I did shoot my kids running towards me in burst mode, with every shot locking dead on; I know that the lens has overwhelming positive reviews that basically boil down to, you get 85% of a $2,500.00 lens for $1,400.00. Thus far I have been completely blow away with the images that it captures. I sit and look at them trying to decide what I can possibly adjust via Photshot to enhance.

That is really nice to hear. Sigma lenses are great. I thought long and hard about buying that lens and saving the money like you said!

Here is one I thought was kind of cool from last nights game.

Guess not... Dude told me I was first in line, I asked if requesting photos was going to cost me my place in line, he said no and that he'd get photos ASAP... then, a couple hours later, he sold them to someone else.

Here's a few more from last weekend. It snowed here last night so all this is now under snow. First shot was taken right by Sundance and the second going into Park City. Looks like the ski season is on it's way!

Thanks. I've pretty much learned everything so far from either vimeo or youtube. I really love the mark wallace series from adorama tv (external link). If anyone else has any tips please feel free to shoot them my way

Had to share a screenshot even though it's not that big of a deal...one of my HDR's is featured photo over at Razzi. Looking at the recent and most viewed on that page, the competition wasn't to stiff :)
