Having trouble with AF in low light with the kit 18-55 IS II when using the flash and the built-in focus assist light. The lens will hunt out and in, and I will get focus confirmation (focus point blinks red), but the picture is out of focus.

Centre focus point manually selected, AI Servo, any aperture that I set. AV Mode, back-button focus.

try using one shot and see if that makes a difference. I never had much luck using AI Servo, but then i don't really shoot action shots either.

Went on a portrait shoot yesterday. I open my bag and OH CRAP! I forgot my 5D at home, paired with my Sigma 50. Didn't have enough time for before the sun goes out to get back home and take it.

So I had to ''force'' myself shooting a portrait session with my 60D. How ugly the results are. Man that camera sucks compared to the 5D..

Something is really wrong here. At ISO 4000, f/3.5, you would have to be in near darkness to need a 2 second exposure.

I just did a quick test indoors, one window providing light (not direct sun). Auto no flash picked f/3.5, iso 3200, 1/30s. Manual with the same settings = same picture.

Keep looking. You'll find it. Double check that ISO setting?

Also check your metering. Make sure your not on spot metering or something in manual mode and matrix/eval. in auto mode.

Man, I am bummed about the snow. I was excited for the great fall we were having for a week. I got this last week, and now this week it is all white!

Sarcasm? Lol, the shot looks great. I own a 5D and a 60D and the 60d get's way more action than the 5D. The only reason I keep the 5D is because it's a perfect mate for the 135 F2.

Agree +1

Guys I don't know if this is the right thread but maybe you can help?

Updating firmware from 2.0.8 to 2.9.0 and camera crashes (switches off) when I begin the update in EOS Utility.

Any ideas, greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Where was this at?

Up above American Fork Canyon near Cascade Springs.

I quoted you because I meant to say that I didn't go to digital fest or even know it existed.

+1 on the composition...

here's a camera simulator to practice getting correct exposure while in computer...
http://camerasim.com/camera-simulator.html (external link)

practice the exposure compensation using the aperture, exposure time(shutter speed) and ISO.

Cool site! Although at ISO 400, photos already very grainy and at 800 I can barely see the photo ;)

Also, snapped that photo at 10pm at night with just a table lamp, and didn't feel like blending exposures hehe
