Alright guys...long time lurker here. I've read 588 of 598 pages of this thread over the past several months and it's time I come out of the closet. Well, not come out of the closet like THAT, not that there's anything wrong with that (for you seinfeld fans). Anyway, my first post is going to be a picture of my nephew which will be open for critique and I'm also making a request. I'd really like to use this photo as a Christmas present for my sister but that darn yellow/red piece of playground equipment is really distracting. I'm looking for advice on whether it's photoshop-able and if so...I'm looking for someone to help as I don't have photoshop. I'd be willing to pay for ones services if it's doable.

Wanted some feedback on the processing...especially the white balance as I've stared at it so long I can no longer determine what looks right. I tried to increase the saturation a bit as it will be for print.

This is one of my first posts on the forum, and my first time posting a picture. Let's see if I can do this right..

welcome.

Yeah sorry, the funny thing is you posted right before me so it wasn't even necessary.

I didn't realize my ISO was so high on tihs until later so it' spretty noisy. This is a pic of my case with 90degree rotation motherboard.

I don't think I'll ever go back to traditional layout.

My stock 60D strap is still nicely wrapped in the original plastic. I hate how uncomfortable the nonpadded straps are and I'm too much of a cheap ass to go out and buy a padded strap. I usually just hold onto it by grasping the 70-200's body.

So I've settled for the canon 60d, just not sure on the lens yet. (debating on the 24-105, 24-70 or the 17-55) I'm kind of leaving the 24-70 out as it has no IS. With that said, my next concerned is that if I'm gonna spend that much money I would like to be able to use it for some video as well. Do you guys think the 17-55 is my best bet? Or what do you guys suggest for a general walk around lens for the 60d? I mostly shoot Motorsports but some times it's in low light so video will be at times. I've been reading and asking and some have suggested the 24-105 for video but I think it will not be ideal for low light.

At this point I'm kind of confused and do t know which route to go as that's a lot of money to blow in a mistake. I'm on a budget but I can figure out a way to get the funds for the lens for the holidays

Canon 70D/70-200 f4/17-55 2.8/BG-E9/430EZ I like DSLR's. It makes a distinction between photo fans and normal people who don't give a damn how a picture could look like

forcefed, first of all...is that a Grand National in your avatar? If so, I'm jealous. Second of all, what sort of budget are you working with? I use my 70-200 F4L for almost all of my automotive photography (well, being that's all I ever do anyway...). But it's definitely not ideal for low light. Are you planning on being on the wall, at the starting line, or in the stands?

In my opinion, over saturation, the original was better. just needed to decrease exposure one level, again my opinion only.

Although the 24-70 has no IS, it does have a pretty big aperture at f2.8, which makes it even better than the 24-105 in low light. Food for thought

Lol you shoulnt. It's not a grand national it's just a 4 eye 1986 coupe that getting a nasty ford big block motor in, so I hope. Well at first I was set on stone for the 7d, but I have come to the conclusion that is way too much camera for me to start with and knowing that I don't have much patience at all I will give up on it. I had an xsi last year so I'm sort of familiar with the revel body a bit although I did not use it much. This time I kind of want to get the 60d and a good lens to begin with and be semi happy for a while until I consider some else or find an excuse to do so. I mostly attend drag tracks and xan get pretty close or far as they don't care much as long as I move from time to time. Budget wise im pretty tight as I got too many hobbies going on at once but like I said I wouldn't mind some good lens from the get go.

Ps. I'm looking at b&h site and they have the 60d kit with the 18-135 lens for 1095 shipped. Maybe I should give that a try and learn the camera then upgrade the lens and maybe some gear as I go? I'm just stuck in the lens part, camera I'm set on a new or refurbed 60d

Thanks man

Yeah I know that's why I was bummed when I found out its not IS and it's 200 more. Everything I do is pretty much hand held. Mind you, I'm not pro nor I want to be. This is just another fun hobby that I enjoy over the bs high school drama with the car scene.

To anyone interested, Woot.com has the GoPro HD Helmet Hero, version 1, for $129 right now. I know it's not as cool as the hero 2, but that's a pretty sweet price for a really nifty toy :)

Remember that IS will give you a more useable slow shutter but it will not help stop action. Likewise 2.8 will give you a more native fast shutter in that same low light than a native f4 would. In the end that argument between those 2 lenses come down to if you are shooting static or moving subjects.

Example being, being able to shoot at 1/15 a 105mm may seem great if your shooting a stool in a dim bar but pit a person on that stool that is interacting and moving and 1/15 ain't gonna seem so hot when you review the images (read: motion blur). High ISO is the ticket in low light, then fast glass, then subject control.

It's the thought that counts Vin ;)

Take a look here at this sweet deal. You must act by midnight tomorrow however.
