I went out to the PGA Championship on Monday, since those without creds can't take cameras any other time. It was a bummer, most of the big names traveled on Monday, so they were not there. And the wife nearly passed out, so we had to stay close to the clubhouse area. So I tried to look at it a little different for the day. These are a few of the images I liked. C&C is always welcome. Thanks for looking.

#1: Monday Preparation (in the full size...you can still see the ball, just in front of the player.)

#3: Charl Schwartzel had just made a 60 footer, with at least 15 feet of break on it...he was the only one of he three to make it.

#4: Lucas Glover...in the rough, where he seems to spend too much time these days.

#5: Dustin Johnson, after he finished 9 holes...spent 20 catching up on his social life!

Thanks. Not being able to get away from the clubhouse and get out and walk much, meant I had to change the way I shot for the day.

Very Nice shots, Im actually a Asst Pro @ a Very Nice public course in NY & I was asked if I would shoot the MET Open at the end of August. While in a very good golfer Im a "aspiring/Noob" photographer & Ive never shot a full event like this. Any helpful advice or words of encouragement? I was going to shoot with my 20-700, 16-50 & possibly rent a 300mm f4 IS.....
Thanks Drew

Thanks Drew.

the 70-200 is a good choice, I was using a rented 70-200f2.8MkII for these. I think rather than renting a 300, rent a 400 and a 1.4TC for the 7-200. Sometimes I felt like 300 wasn't going to be enough anyway. And from watching the "pro" photogs, they all had a 70-200 and a 400, if not a 500.

As far as the shooting, carry lots of memory, the 50D is great for FPS, that is what I use too, but it will fill the cards up fast. Don't take pictures in the backswing, unless you are really far enough away that the player won't hear it...thus the need for the 400! Try to catch the ball in flight, and shoot the "people" side of it. Not just the play. It can be a lot of fun, I wish I had gotten to walk around more. I will likely do it again, maybe at the Tour Championship this year.

Thanks, Being a golfer myself I think positioning my self for good shots will be fairly easy... I just need to figure out the gear situation. I will have to look into the 400. More reach is prolly the way to go
Thanks again

#2 and #3 is really nice. Did use a monopod or were you shooting handheld?

Thanks.

All were shot with the 70-200 f/2.8 IS MKII, with IS on. I was going to bring my monopod, but did not want to risk being turned away at the gate, or having it confiscated. I was later wishing I had it, other amateurs were inside the gates using them. Oh well.

Thanks. I like trying to catch the ball and any turf/sand flying through the air. Yeah...Lucas needs to shave the beard, and find the fairway.
