Do your homework and show then fully processed shots. Show your best 50 and stop.

What the guy spotted was an inconsistent set of unprocessed photos.

I went though this with a senior shoot. I have never since shown anything which was not color corrected cropped and, at a minimum, batch processed for some sharpening. And if you underexposed, fix that and highlights before you show any of those.

a lot of this depends on whether or not these samples are comparative to the work she saw and based her decision to hire you.

Overexposed and high key are not the same thing.

Could you explain how to do high-key without over-exposing? I think I know how, but I've never seen it explicitly written out. Thanks

Cant see any of the images. Post is only 1 day old, and I even tried logging into my photobucket account just in case. No images found. Were they removed?

Same here - I recently did a free shoot with a P&S but even I processed all the shots before showing them.

High key usually just means that the majority of values in the scene are above middle gray. If most of the scene is "white," then it is high key. If you're overexposing key portions the image to get that, then you don't understand what you're doing.

Looks that way. Classic case of looking for reinforcement and not finding it.

Thanks for sharing your techniques, what a great contribution to this thread!

Actually I removed the photos because I received three lewd emails to my personal website that were definitely not about photography and I have an uneasy suspicion they were from members of this forum. I feel I got great reinforcement, just not from you.

...but I'm guessing that you're not going to rehost the images with another provider?

If he thinks the flamer is someone from this forum, why would he?

He said the lewd emails were not about photography. How do showing photos that do not link to his business (or personal email) cause more people to contact him?

I haven't seen your photos, VIEVE, but what you described above is one reason why I don't share my site on this forum. People can be cruel.

While it is unfortunate, your situation with the B&G, there is no contract. If the B&G are so unhappy, it may be best to refund some of their money and move on; because people talk, especially about their wedding day and bad experiences. Combine those two things and word will spread pretty fast. Maybe it's not a good idea to do photography work for coworkers.

This is probably not something you want to hear but it may be in your best interest considering you work with the Bride. If you decide to keep the cash, that should be fine, too. After all, they did only pay $800 and while it is a great deal of money, you did a great deal of work even if they aren't pleased with the outcome.

Touchy situation, hope it all works out. What do you think you will want to do? What's your gut telling you?

Has the bride/coworker spoken with you about it at all?

Do you still have the RAW files? What about correcting them in post to make them more consistent and then handing them the updated versions?

You're giving business advice now?

Don't EVER make business decisions with your gut. Business is a thinking thing not a feeling thing.
