so i just got my 5D back from canon along with my 50L and 24-70L all calibrated, and everything's looking good and focusing is on point.

but now my sigma 85mm f/1.4 though is sitting here now with some backfocusing issues after the canon calibration (i already sent it in alone to sigma a couple weeks ago to fix some problems i had with AF).

if i send it back in with my 5D body, should i expect them just to work on the lens, and not mess with anything on the body? i know its kind of a stupid question, since its not likely that they would, but i did just spend $200 to canon to make sure everything was on point, so i'm just curious.

Sigma will not mess with your body only your lens. I had no luck with them calibrating either my 50 or 85 lenses to my freshly Canon calibrated 5DmII. My 85 is worse than when I sent it in and my 50 showed very little signs of improvement. I personally will never send them my camera again as you are risking it being lost, damaged or sent to the wrong person which is what happened to my original 50 1.4 lens the second time I sent it in. They replaced it with a new one but I got thinking what would have happened had my camera also been involved? I will continue to send my lenses to them until they get them fixed and calibrated but my cameras will stay with me. The replacement 50mm lens that they sent me was supposedly checked for calibration with their 5DmII but it is just as bad as my 85. Good luck with what ever you decide to do and keep your fingers crossed.

Why you guys don't send eveything insured? That is what I do when I send stuff to canon Irvine.

But does that shipping insurance cover anything that might happen in the service center? Sure it covers a lost or dropped package while in transit with the carrier, but I believe Rand was more pointing the finger at the treatment of equipment in the hands of Sigma service.

OK, then Sigma should cover the cost and it seems they did. My first time hearing this happening so maybe this was only an isolated event.

Yes I have been sending my lenses to New York. You need to go to the Sigma website and download their repair form, fill it out and send it in with your lens and camera. When you fill out the form write the serial number to your camera on the form also and then make a copy for yourself. Good luck and I hope you get your problems solved.
