Is it possible to use a standard size two car garage with 8 foot ceilings as a studio? I want to use a three light set-up like the photo below. The two side lights would have softboxes on them. I am just going to use the studio for the 3 light set up. I am going to do composites so the person I shoot will be extracted from the scene and dropped into a different background. This studio will be used for that sole purpose. Shoot the person with those 3 lights and then they are done. Nothing fancy. Just that very limited use.

I am concerned about the 8 foot ceiling being too low. Also concerned about light spilling everywhere. All the walls and ceiling are sheet-rocked nicely and are painted white.

Please proceed, Governor.

People have done MORE than that, with less space. So yes, it is do-able.

I know this is taller than your space, but this should give you some ideas.

Also, one member on here (m.shalaby) is working with an 10' x 10' room with a 7' 8" ceiling. While he's only doing 3/4 shots, he's been able to produce some good work.

If I were you, I'd use the garage width wise, rather than front/back. This will give the maximum space allotment from camera to subject - this will allow for many focal-length options (giving you more choices over how the subject is placed into the composite photo).
