Just picked up an old 28-105 lens for a backup/beater rig I am putting together. Lens seems OK, but is very sticky at 28. Sticky may be a kind phrase; I thought the zoom locked for a second. It loosens up a bit after some vigorous zooming, but goes back to sticky pretty quick. It is sticky/rubbing through the rest of the range, but that is tolerable.

Any suggestions on lubing this thing up? Or taking it apart to clean? Or anything? Or should I just use it as a 35-105? :D

Thanks for any ideas!

It sounds to me like the lens should go to a shop for a full cleaning and lubrication.

Yeah, I know. I paid $80 for it, so I'm thinking I can roll the dice a bit with a DYI effort.

Play with it a bit more... The more use it has the more it will loosen. Lenses need love care and attention too!

the lens disassembles from the rear like all of canon's lenses. take your time and have a camera with you to document your process just in case you get lost.
